Can't Kick the Sweet Tooth

Jess Kuhlman

You follow your macros perfectly all day, you finish dinner, then you smash a sleeve of Oreos before going to bed upset at yourself for not staying on track. Sound familiar? You may blame the sudden sugar rush on ‘having a sweet tooth’ but there may be some underlying issue you are ignoring. So how can we prevent ourselves from munching on extra treats? And why are we craving sugar so much? For one, you might be under eating during the day. If you finish dinner or finish your macros at the end of the day and find yourself still so hungry you don’t care what you eat next, you’re probably under eating. Another problem could be you’ve tried to hold off on a craving for so long, too long, that when you do indulge you over-indulge. If you find you’ve been craving a food for a couple days, plan it into your macros one day. Save yourself room for a couple of slices of pizza, a bowl of ice cream, etc. whatever it is that way you can enjoy the treat without the guilt. Allowing yourself to indulge now and then will not only create ‘balance’ that people always talk about but it will help improve your relationship with food.
